This is a 2-Day Pistol Course for anyone at least 18 years old and can lawfully possess a handgun by state and federal law. This course is ok for that new gun owner with no experience, to those that have more experience with a handgun that want a training opportunity that will be like no other in Utah. The base of any credible Utah CFP Course is the gun itself, getting acquainted with YOUR gun, learning the functionality of it, what it likes, doesn’t like, that causes malfunctions and you the gun owner getting comfortable with your gun. This takes two days on the range minimum and a minimum of 300 rounds to truly get comfortable.
Prerequisite: You must have a valid Utah Concealed Firearm Permit, (CFP) OR be working with me to obtain one. We will verify the status of your permit prior to you taking this class.
Day one: This is 8- hour hybrid learning Basic Pistol Course. You do the classroom portion at home on the computer and will need to complete four learning modules that about 4 hours at home, including a written test of 90 percent or higher. Then we spend about 1-2 hours together on the range and you will have to qualify on a target to receive a certificate of completion. You will need your handgun and 100 rounds of target ammo and pay a lane fee of 15.00 each shooter.
Day two: We will spend 8 hours on the range and will now build off of the first day. This time we will be drawing from the holster and shooting faster with defensive accuracy, we will put you under some stress to see how you function the gun under some manageable pressure. We will do numerous pistol drills, shooting tactics, conduct a Tueller Drill and will finish up with a night shoot using flashlights.
What will I need to bring?
You will need 300 rounds of target ammo for this second day (including 25 rounds of defensive ammo), your handgun with at least two magazines, one magazine carrier, a sturdy belt, flashlight or weapon attached light.
Dress warm for the weather as this second day requires an outdoor range. Hats, hoodies, and beanies and shooting gloves are recommended.
