You only need to be 18 to take this course to get your Utah CFP. Minors can also take this course, if accompanied by a parent.

Retired Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy/UPD Officer Phil Snyder here. I will be your Utah CFP Instructor for this class. I bring 30 years of Utah law enforcement training and experience to share with you in the classroom. You can have serious legal consequences with bad instruction, as I have seen as a Utah law enforcement officer personally where this CFP student was charged with aggravated assault and lost his rights to own a gun for life, due to poor concealed carry training.  I don’t want that to happen to you and your family!

Fingerprinting and photos can be done in class before you leave:  I will have a trained, BCI approved fingerprint/photo technician taker at the class to take your photos and fingerprints for a fee of 15.00 each. BCI will charge you a fee of 53.25 for a five-year license, IF you want them to do your background check and their fee to issue you a permit, has nothing to do with my charges.  We will help you fill out your BCI application before you leave and have you ready to go!

Topics we will cover:

Use of force laws changed May 1, 2024: We will have a robust review in the use of force, including the use of deadly force in defense of your home, vehicles, your places of business and employment and property. We will use plenty of real-life scenarios have question an answer on this very difficult, high liability topic.  We will teach you when it’s appropriate and legally justified to draw a gun on someone and when you can legally shoot.

Federal and Local laws of Carry: Detailed review of where you can and can’t carry, including but not limited to bars, airports, businesses and churches. Constitutional carry and the Utah CFP will be discussed, the pros and cons of choosing the best option for you and your family. Can you carry if you have had one beer? Does Utah have ammunition restrictions, Utah reciprocity laws discussed and what to do if you travel to a non-reciprocity state? Do you know what holster you will use for carry?

Storage tips for guns: What does Utah law say about children having access to minors? Current legal precedents don’t look good for parents that don’t store their gun properly. What if I live with a restricted or suicidal person? Do I have legal consequences if they have access to my gun?

Pistol Familiarity Hands-On instruction: Do you know how to grip the pistol safely and effectively to minimize recoil and maximize trigger control? Do you know how to safely and effectively load and unload the pistol without having malfunctions? Can you work that slide? Do you know how to clear double feeds using cover and using the lock, rip, rack, rack, rack, tap, rack and ready? Do you know the four step draw and when it’s appropriate to do so? If you don’t know how to run your gun and get comfortable with it, you will likely fail when you need it most.

If this sounds like something you would be excited to learn in a four-hour class, this is the PERFECT class for you and your family!
