My name is Phil Snyder, and first and foremost, I am a fellow Christian and Christ follower. I know firsthand how critical it is for a church to have a security plan built on both faith and preparedness.

With 30 years of law enforcement service in Utah, I bring real-world experience to help churches develop and train effective, compassionate security teams that reflect the values of their faith communities.

My Experience in Court Security and Law Enforcement

I proudly served the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake for three decades. Over that time, I held assignments in the Patrol Division, Training Division, and served as a Crisis Intervention Officer (CIT)—helping individuals in the mental health community get the support and care they needed.

I was board certified by the Utah Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, and I’ve worked directly with the Third District Mental Health Court of Salt Lake City. My service included de-escalation training, crisis response, active shooter training and proactive threat prevention—skills that directly apply to modern church security.

In 2006, I received the Division Commander’s Award from Sheriff Aaron D. Kennard for my proactive police work that averted a middle school shooting, recovered three stolen handguns and arrested three juveniles. I’ve also been commended for successfully resolving violent mental health crises through communication and compassion rather than force.

More recently, I served in the Salt Lake County Justice Courts for eight years, including two years as Court Security Supervisor under Judge Ronald Kunz of the West Jordan City Justice Court, who described me as a man of “impeccable integrity” and “highly skilled” individual that fit in with Court System well

I am a graduate of the SWAT Tactics Course and certified by Saratoga Springs Police Chief Andrew Burton, and I am both an NRA and Utah Certified CCW Instructor. In 2025, I also became a Texas Certified LTC Instructor, allowing me to train and certify both Texas and Utah concealed carry permit holders.
